New AAQ Sciences Qualification Numbers

Starting September 2025, schools will begin teaching the new Alternative Academic Qualification (AAQ) courses for the sciences, which are now registered with Ofqual under updated qualification numbers.
 
To prevent confusion and ensure regulatory compliance, the previous versions of these qualifications have been end-dated in the Ofqual system from December 2026 (last assessments will take place in November 2026), so that there are not two versions of the course running simultaneously.

• IBO Level 3 Alternative Academic Qualification HL in Physics (Extended Certificate)

• IBO Level 3 Alternative Academic Qualification SL in Physics (Certificate)
Qualification number: 610/3890/8

• IBO Level 3 Alternative Academic Qualification HL in Chemistry (Extended Certificate)
Qualification number: 610/3887/8

• IBO Level 3 Alternative Academic Qualification SL in Chemistry (Certificate)
Qualification number: 610/3888/X

• IBO Level 3 Alternative Academic Qualification HL in Biology (Extended Certificate)
Qualification number: 610/3886/6

• IBO Level 3 Alternative Academic Qualification SL in Biology (Certificate)
Qualification number: 610/3891/X

• IBO Level 3 Alternative Academic Qualification HL in Sports, Exercise and Health Science (Extended Certificate)
Qualification number: 610/3893/3

School heads and IB coordinators should ensure that they use the updated new qualification numbers, and all relevant staff are informed of these changes.
