Italian Ab Inito

Open to educators from IBSCA member schools, our free Seminar series provides an in-depth look at some of the key topics and challenges facing our IB community.

The event is open to IB DP Italian Ab Initio educators.


Seminar Description:

Join us for a review of the components of the Italian Ab Initio guide, inlcuding: Paper 1, Paper 2 and Orals. The seminar will focus on the challenges of delivery and ideas on how these can be addressed. Delegates will be encouraged to share ideas from their own school and practice.

Seminar Details:

  • 3-hour seminar delivered virtually making access easy and convenient.

  • Led by an experienced IB educator who is part of the IBEN network.

  • Limited to one registration per IBSCA member school. There are a limited number of spaces available, if sufficient interest is expressed a second date may be opened or additional spaces added.

  • Offered free as a benefit of IBSCA membership.

Please note that our seminars are offered as unauthorised supplemental professional development. Certificates are not given for attending, nor does participation count toward IB authorisation or evaluation.

Led By:

The Italian Ab Initio workshop will be led by Barbara Battaglino. Barbara is an educator, academic leader, and IB professional with extensive international experience. Her longstanding engagement with the International Baccalaureate (IB) includes roles as DP Programme Leader (IBO AEM Region), DP Coordinator, Examiner, Workshop Leader, and School Visit Team Leader and Member, supported by formal IBEN professional development training spanning 2009–2023.

She is currently Head of Lumio Private School, Cyprus, where she leads academic direction and school development and operations. Prior to this, she served as Academic Dean at the World International School of Turin (WINS) until August 2024, where she oversaw curriculum design, PYP, MYP, and DP implementation, and faculty development.

Her published works reflect her expertise in inclusive and international education, notably resources for IB English and Spanish ab-initio teachers (2020), and The Possible Dream – Essay on Paulo Freire’s Work (2002).
