Music: understanding assessment components & the submission process

Open to educators from IBSCA member schools, our free Seminar series provides an in-depth look at some of the key topics and challenges facing our IB community.

The event is open to IB DP Music educators and Heads of Department.


Seminar Description:

The submission of the assessment components for DP music can be a daunting task. Join us for our 3-hour online seminar to help you navigate your way through the Music DP submission process. The seminar will cover a series of checklists for the material needed within each of the four music components. The session will also include the perusal of sample formats, content, interpretation of grade boundaries, due dates, planning, plus time for Q and A.

Seminar Details:

  • 3-hour seminar delivered virtually making access easy and convenient.

  • Led by an experienced IB educator who is part of the IBEN network.

  • Limited to one registration per IBSCA member school. There are a limited number of spaces available, if sufficient interest is expressed a second date may be opened or additional spaces added.

  • Offered free as a benefit of IBSCA membership.

Led By:

This DP Music seminar will be led by Jim Yarnell. Jim has more than four decades of teaching experience in international music education. Originally from the Chicagoland area of the United States, he began his career as a high school band director. He moved to the Netherlands and worked at the American School of The Hague, where he served as Arts Director and taught IBDP music, instrumental music and music technology. He retired in the spring of 2022 to devote his attention to Global Music Concepts, an organisation dedicated to supporting the needs of the global music educator. Jim is an IBEN workshop leader for IB DP Music.

He has a Master’s degree in Music Education from Vandercook College of Music in Chicago, a Master’s degree in teaching pedagogy from the Utrecht Music Conservatory in the Netherlands, and a Bachelor of Music Education degree frmo Ball State University in Indiana.
