Embracing Flexibility: Innovation in the MYP Conference
The IBSCA MYP Conference, held on 5th June 2025 at The Skinners’ Kent Academy, brought together educators and school leaders from across the UK to explore the theme Embracing Flexibility: celebrating innovation in the MYP.
Throughout the conference, it was clear that the MYP is growing steadily across the UK, thanks to the dedication and enthusiasm of the schools within the MYP community.
Sessions highlighted creative and inclusive approaches to teaching and learning, including Halcyon London International School’s work on international mindedness and global citizenship. Lenny Dutton, Curriculum Manager at the IB, shared updates on the latest MYP enhancements and the ongoing Beta trial, helping schools understand what’s ahead.
There was also a strong focus on inclusion and accessibility. Christine Incles shared how assistive technologies are being used to support learners in the MYP, and James Doddington reflected on Snowfields Academy’s success as a newly authorised IB World School, demonstrating how the MYP can support learners with additional needs, the world’s first MYP SEN school to receive authorisation.
A number of sessions explored transition points—particularly how schools can support students moving from the PYP into the MYP, and from MYP into GCSE. Practical ideas were shared for building more coherent and supportive pathways for students. The day ended with a session from Dianne Blackburn and Dr Felix Donkor on how the MYP can be mapped to the national curriculum, helping schools connect their IB practice to national expectations.
This year’s conference was a positive reflection of how far the MYP has come in the UK. The growth we’re seeing is a direct result of the incredible work happening in schools every day—and the shared commitment of educators who continue to support and shape the programme’s future.
