Building Student Competencies - IBED - Cat 3 - Virtual

RECOMMENDED FOR:

Heads of School, IB Coordinators, Teachers and others within a school’s IB community who are interested in growing their pedagogical practices and teaching strategies within an IB context.

Please note this workshop will be delivered virtually.

Workshop Overview:

How can schools organize learning in a way to develop compassionate, balanced and productive lifelong learners? Students become competent when they use and develop skills in familiar, non-familiar and challenging situations. Through learning and living, students draw and build on what they know, who they are and what they do to navigate their personal stories. In this workshop, participants will:

  • Consider who our students are, what they know and what they can do, and how schools can draw from this knowledge to support their learning journeys

  • Explore how competency-based learning can support the development of core and global competencies

  • Design the curriculum that supports student skill development and that encourages students to use and improve these skills

  • Develop an understanding of the importance of metacognition

  • Reflect on the role of schools in developing productive lifelong learners
