CP Coordinator Community Update

This year has involved meeting as many of the CP coordinators and educators in the UK network as possible. In the past term, the CP network has been running with two general meetings a month on consecutive days at 4pm. Also, this term, there have been drop-in sessions for the reflective project on two consecutive days a month.

These meetings provide updates, advice and discussion. More specifically, we have focused on evaluation, recruitment and success stories of CP student results and destinations. There has also been a chance to discuss the ongoing review of BTEC, how to market the CP, challenges in the recognition of the CP especially in view of UCAS and universities with current students who are CP alumni as well as plans for earlier IB exam starts. There has also been a chance to share data emerging from the October Global Conference in The Hague and  I have been able to support some schools with recent IB research on CP outcomes for their school marketing campaigns. In addition to this, CP schools requesting DP subject support have joined the south-east DP subject hub, overseen by Darryl Barker at Tonbridge Grammar School.

Looking forward to 2023 and starting out with pressing issues, our focus will be the reflective project and assisting schools with any moderation needs they might have. Moving through the term, we are looking to develop specific core hubs for the CP to share best practice in the Personal Professional Skills, Language Development, Service Learning and Reflective Project courses as well as develop the supporting material that can assist in demonstrating the Core as a USP for schools. This can stress current research, UK context and draw out all the relevancy of the skill development in the core. We are also putting together a varied programme of support for all CP and CP/DP schools. There will be a collaborative termly programme of joint DP and CP topics and concerns such as ‘what do you need to do as a coordinator when it comes to exam preparation?’, ‘what do I do with the evaluation feedback when I get it?’, ‘how do I prepare for results day?’ and ‘what can I do with the results when i get them?’

Whilst virtual is essential and so convenient, we also have a chance for more face to face interactions. At IBSCA, we look forward to visiting schools in their regions to support the ongoing development of the CP as well as assisting schools going through candidacy. We would like to build up a reference database of CP school profiles to capture the individuality of each CP school as well as compile detailed snapshots of CP students that give you a true sense of the pathways they have taken.

The greatest ongoing aim of the network is to connect all CP educators, and not just CP coordinators, across the network to share best practice and support each other so we look forward to hearing from and seeing you!
