Interdisciplinary teaching & learning in the MYP - MYP - Category 2: Virtual - Cancelled


RECOMMENDED FOR:

Teams of at least two teachers from different subject groups should attend so they can work together on a unit plan for the Middle Years Programme (MYP) to use at their home school. Individual teachers are also welcome.

Workshop Overview:

This workshop is based on fostering interdisciplinary teaching and learning in the MYP guide. The workshop will support schools and teachers in their efforts to structure meaningful interdisciplinary inquiry through providing a thorough look into planning, teaching, learning and assessing of interdisciplinary units. This interactive workshop is designed to provide step-by-step guidance on how to prepare interdisciplinary teaching and learning strategies effectively, from identifying possible interdisciplinary threads, to designing multifaceted questions of inquiry in the context of purposeful syntheses and assessing student´s interdisciplinary understandings.

For this purpose, you will unpack the interdisciplinary aims, objectives and criteria and explore ways to practically organize interdisciplinary teaching and learning in your school context through collaborative practices. Through a practical hands-on approach, participants will understand the importance of this foundational MYP element and how promoting interdisciplinary teaching and learning leads to school growth and deeper student understanding.

Is this workshop for me?

Category 2 workshops focus on programme delivery. They emphasize assessment, teaching and learning methodologies, and exploring best practice in the classroom. The goals of these workshops are to enhance the understanding of the IB philosophy and programme model and improve the quality of programme delivery. Participants will:

  • make connections between the programme framework and practice

  • enhance their understanding of the role of assessment in IB programmes

  • discuss and analyze standards and practices appropriate to their role

  • engage in discussion and activities aimed at sharing pedagogical techniques such as best practice in the classroom; teaching and learning methodologies; and finding, sharing, developing and using resources.

Teachers who have attended Category 1 training and currently teach in an IB programme will:

  • Share best practices, teaching and learning methodologies and resources

  • Explore IB assessment in more depth

  • Enhance the quality of pedagogy and international mindedness
