George Watson's College
|
George Watson's College is a fully integrated school, catering for over 2,300 girls and boys from Nursery through to Senior 6 on a single 50 acre campus just to the south of Edinburgh's City Centre. Founded as a Charitable Hospital in 1741 it was the legacy of merchant and financier George Watson. Today, the George Watson's Family Foundation continues this legacy, raising funds for bursary support enabling children from more disadvantaged backgrounds to attend Watson’s. It is a close-knit community, characterised by a warmth often associated with smaller schools. However the school unashamedly exploits the advantage of size to the full – and there is no doubt that the range of opportunities available to the pupils is exceptional. Watson's became an IB World School in November 2010 making it the first Scottish independent school to offer IB and SQA options to their pupils entering S5. This complemented the unrivalled choice of SQA qualifications and extra-curricular activities that the School offers. |
