IB Coordinators Conference: Managing the DP core
We are delighted to invite you to the Coordinators’ conference which will take place in London on Tuesday 5th March 2019.
In December 2017, we ran a conference on the issue of recruitment into the International Baccalaureate and that conference took the form of IB Coordinators – and others – talking about their own context and tactics. The conference also gave a considerable amount of time for coordinators – and others – to share experiences in a more informal way.
This year, we’d like to do the same thing with the Core. In many ways, the Core, ToK, the Extended Essay and CAS, is the jewel in the crown of IB and its existence is something that differentiates the IB Diploma from the A level provision in which, increasingly, schools are trying to enhance the basic three subjects with additional elements. However, the timing and the management and the oversight of the Core are not always without complexity and strife and we hope that the sharing of experience from a range of schools and contexts will give everyone something to think with. In addition, there will be a brief presentation about the core element of the CP programme which could be of interest to schools who are thinking about introducing the CP programme along with the Diploma. The conference will be opened with a talk from Professor Mary Hayden, Professor of International Education at the University of Bath.
Part of this conference will also be the AGM in which Robert Tibbott, the CEO, and the other officers will justify their existence and explain future plans. This is a very important moment for IBSCA members to raise issues, so that I hope there will be a strong turn-out from IBSCA schools.
