CP Conference – 26th November 2019

November 26 @ 8:30 am - 4:00 pm

We are delighted to announce details of the 7th annual IBSCA IB Careers-related Programme Conference. This will take place at the De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms on 26th November, as in previous years is an opportunity for CP Co-ordinators and senior leaders to meet to share practice and hear the latest updates from IBSCA and IB officers. This is the only such event delivered solely for the CP in the AEM region and we encourage our colleagues from outside the UK to attend to make it a truly international occasion.

Confirmed speakers:

  • Keynote speaker will be Brian Lightman:
    • Brian Lightman’s career in education spanning 40 years included two secondary headships and a national role as General Secretary of the Association of School and College Leaders.  Brian is acknowledged as an authority on the English and Welsh education systems. Now self-employed he has a wide ranging portfolio which includes working with individual and groups of schools,  providing coaching and training for middle and senior leaders, professional development and support for school improvement. He is an Associate for PiXL Secondary and serves on the boards of an academy trust and the Careers and Enterprise Company and leads on careers education for the PiXL network of 1600+ schools.

    • In his keynote Brian will argue how inspirational leadership of the  current landscape of careers education and guidance  can give unprecedented access to life changing opportunities. He will explore how schools and colleges can use the work undertaken within the IB careers programme as a springboard to embed careers education into a whole school approach reflecting current best practice. Brian will also deliver a breakout on apprenticeships which is an area that is growing very significantly.

  • Break out session from BeReady who provide a free online platform to develop employability skills and careers understanding.
  • Chantell Wyten, Senior Curriculum Manager with responsibility for the CP, from the IB Hague office. Chantell will update us on progress with the review of the CP.
  • Peter Fidczuk, UK Development and Recognition Manager, will update delegates on changes to IB subject courses, the forthcoming introduction of the revised standards and practices and a round up of university admissions developments.
  • Update from BTEC
  • We will hear from our teacher practitioners with inputs on language development, the reflective project, the international dimension and a breakout led by Stephen Baxter, latterly at the Ryde School, on opportunities to develop the CP in the independent sector. This latter session is aimed at schools which currently do not offer the CP, but may be interested in doing so in the future.
